Alright, I've got a set of the BD 10x42's that are a couple of years old now.  This is the $600 model.  I always thought 8x42's were supposed to be brighter, and the local Sportsman's Warehouse had a set of the BL 8x42's for $289 as opposed to around $400 everywhere else, so I picked up a pair last night.  I brought them home and just before dark I took a look around with both sets.  I personally could not tell the difference, even after darkness had set in.  Does the fact that the 10x42's are a higher priced model make up for the difference in exit pupil?  Furthermore, I thought the 8x42's would be steadier, but the extra 6 ounces or so of the 10x42 set seems to offset that as well.  I personally can't see the difference in these two sets of binoculars.  On that subject, I've looked through nearly every set Sportsman's Warehouse has, and the only pair I thought was better than either of these Minox bino's was the Swaro EL's.  That includes all the Zeiss stuff, some Kahles, but no Leicas.  That was during the day though.  Anyway...

Does anyone have any other personal experience with or thoughts on either model?  I don't really need both sets, and I'll be listing one or the other for sale.  But I can't make up my mind which set to keep.  I'm a Midwestern woods deer hunter, but I only get out a few times a year.  I am, however, going to Colorado on an archery elk hunt in the fall...   I could see the light weight of the BL's being an asset, but the extra magnification of the BD's might come in handy.  Although maybe it won't since it's an archery hunt...  Maybe I'll just list them both for sale and let someone make up my mind for me.  I think I'd be more than happy with either set anyway.  The only preference I have is that I like the eyecups better on the BL's, and I like the fact that the BD's are black instead of green...  Any help here?

Are you trying to say that I might as well just stick my right foot in, shake it around, and see where it points? Wink

go the the Minox site and compare FOV, weight ect. Maybe that will help you decide. As for elk in Co. It depends what time of year you are going and what type of country. We went in second week of Sept. in the San Juans (dark timber) I would keep the 8x42 as they have a better exit pupil. Try both side by side tonight as the sun goes down and see which one stays brighter longer.

Alright, since nobody has any insight, I'll just offer them both for sale.  Apparently, I'm not allowed to list anything in the classifieds because I don't have 50 posts, but if by some remote chance someone sees this and is interesed in either pair of binos, shoot me a PM.
