Hi everyone, I need a little advice, I  own a pair of Minox 15x58, but I was considering selling them for a set of new Nikon 16x56, I was just wondering if anyone have any experience with the new Nikons, my reason behind the decision is  , the Nikons are a little smaller and is 1 power more than my Minox, with the same FOV. Anyone with any thoughts regarding if I should keep my Minox, or go with the Nikons? Thanks

I have heard nothing but good reports about the optical quality of the Minox 15x58 ED binoculars over the years.

I own a Minox BD 10x44 BP Porro prism binocular & the optics & optical coatings are first class.
I have had mine for several years & it is one of the sharpest binos that I have in my collection.

If I were you I would do a comparison between the Minox & the Nikon binoculars to see which one performs the best of the two.

Personally I think that the difference between 15x & 16x is minimal and not a good reason to sell the Minox.

I prefer Porro prism binoculars especially those made in Japan. (i.e. Minox BD 10x44 BP) 8>)

I own the Minox 15x58ED, and I have been well pleased with the performance of them, well regarded in this small choice of optics in this size. The small increase in power is of no use unless the glass is good.

I have not tried the Monarch 5 16x56, and since it is a new model, you may not find anyone with experience. I find a rebate available of $200. from Nikon through Aug. 20th, on this model.  That may sweeten the price on this model, but I have my doubts it will surpass the Minox optically.

A good place to purchase is at SWFA, they have the same price as all the rest, and the rebate is good.

The weight of a 15X binocular is not really too important, as they should be tripod mounted to use the optics.

If you get one of these, report back with your results, that would be interesting.

Hi NDhunter I really enjoy my Minox as well, I was just curious to see if anyone have purchased the Nikons, and see what their opinion would be concerning them , before I made a  purchased.  I use my Minox for hunting and yes weight  is a concern  when you have to carry your bino's long distances and every power improvement  helps when your viewing long distances.
