First impressions... I won't be able to get it mounted and shoot with it before I leave for my trip, but I did compare it to a Kahles CL 2-7 and a Swarovski Z6 1-6 EE.
The first thing you notice is that the scope is really light. Physically smaller and lighter than both Austrians. The zoom rotated with the same resistance of the other two as well. The adjustable focus eyepiece rotates smoothly and I did check to see how loose it is when at full extension. It was pretty tight, so I don't see the same issues that others were having with their ZA-5s. The weight of the scope makes you think that the tube is pretty thin. I can't comment on that but it doesn't appear to be inferior. We'll see when I can get it out into the field.
The reticle is have is the 4a. There is good spacing between the thicker parts compared to the Kahles and is about the same as the Swarovski. The thick part of the reticle is as dark as the Kahles and actually darker than the Z^. I was a bit disappointed in that part of the Z^.
The glass is pretty good. I started a bit before sunset with all three scopes and went to 35 minutes after sunset looking through my window outside across some snow and into a treeline. I will have to say that the clarity and detail was about on par with both Austrians. Although I was not reading any letter charts, I would not be able to say that one would be better than another for hunting during legal shooting hours. BUt this was not a detailed test. Just my observation with my eyes. Everyone may have different experiences.
The eye relief on this scope takes you by surprise. There is over 4.5" of eye relief and when you first pull the scope up, you have to make the adjustment for that relief. The eyebox is a bit tricky at first, but once you get used to it, i think it will be fine.
Turrets... I took the aluminum caps off and moved the adjustment dials a bit. They don't have the same feel of the Austrians, but for the price, as long as they track to the 1/4 MOA as described, I'll be happy. I don't make many adjustments once they are set to the zero I'm looking for.
I like it and plan on buying another...
