I'm looking for the best one based on your recommendations.

I would like to keep the price $400 and under.

It will be used mainly for target shooting, but I do want it to be of high quality and durable.

I saw those, but don't they have a propierary mounting system? How would I get it on the S&W K-Frame? Is there and adapter?

The Docter is a very nice red dot. Small, lightweight and extremely clear.

I would look at a Warne rail for your K frame.
Then mounting will be a breeze with the Burris FastFire mount.

For revolver specific mounts.  Allchin makes a S&W revolver mount that should work with the Docter sight (please call them to verify this).  Their mount is drilled for a variety of small sights.  JP also makes an adapter plate for mounting the Docter sight onto any Jpoint mount.  EGW, Allchin and JP make Jpoint mounts for a S&W revolver.  I am not sure if SWFA carries these, but I am sure a call to SWFA would get you started.

The other route is to get the rail as previously suggested.  That is a nice option so you can move the sight to other weapons easily.

don't go cheap, they don't hold up

comes with a mount the replaces the rear sight

Or the Trijicon RMRs
