My SWFA SS 10x42 Mil-Quad scope has arrived and been mounted, and a 100 yard lane reservation made for tomorrow. The only thing left for me to do is understand the Mil-Quad reticle, which is something of a change for me and many years of moa only. I have read posts here and other forums of a Mil-Quad pdf I could print out and study at my leisure but I'll be darned if I can find it. Can anyone direct me to such a thing? I sure would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Onfinal, SWFA will e-mail you a scope manual just for requesting one. I have one of the SS10x42MQ scopes, which also does not come with a manual. Wendy at SWFA sent me a PDF of the manual. If not familiar with mils, they work the same as moa. Both are just measurements of angles in a circle. Although mils are not as fine as minutes. There are also some very good videos on Youtube. One of the best tutorials for both mils and moa is put up by the NSSF. In them, Ryan Cleckner gives a very good explanation of them. Ryan is a former Army sniper team leader and instructor. He has several good videos on the subject, as well as long range shooting. Well worth the time to view. Hope this helps. Enjoy the scope. I really like the mil quad reticle compared to the old standby mil-dot.

Thank you very much, rayfoy. I called this morning and had the manual in minutes by email. Very helpful and I appreciate the tip.

Got a question. Looks like the last mil unit in each quadrant is divided further into .2 mil. units. Is that right? Maybe it's .25 mil, since it appears to be divided into 4 units, assuming that the diamonds are .2 mil wide?

It looks to me like it is .3 mil.  From center of diamond to right tip is .1 then the spacing is .2.  The black triangle is also .1 mil wide.

I don't quite get it. Most super fine mil units are divided equally into .2 mil or .25 mil units designed to give a more accurate system of simple reticle rangefinding. I don't see how this system works.

You can call SWFA to verify but it does look like the first hash from the center of the last diamond is .3.

Yes--I see what you're saying now--could be that it's .3 to each 1st line stadia right and left of diamond centers then 2 .2 mil units. That would equal 1.0 mil total. Thks. sir.

Not to be critical here since this is mostly academic (since so few would apply it as a rangefinding reticle that much) but I would have rather liked to have seen the last .5 mil marks divided into 5 super fine .1 mil. units. That would have been a bit easier to interpolate and a bit more accurate...I think.
