I got an IOR scope and I was told that the reticle is not in the first plane and therefore the mildot spacing will not hold to a true 3.6inches at 100 yards at higher magnification.
Therefore to compensate I worked out what it should be at 24 power.
But in case im overlooking anything , im open to ideas.

A standard mildot space is 3.6 inches at 100 yards at 10 power.

It should also be 1.8 inches at 100 yards at 20 power.

In case im overlooking anything, I got a Mildot estimated at 1.5 inches at 100 yards at 24 power. Can anyone confirm the 24 power

Should be right if the power ring is calibrated properly. The equation is inversely proportional, i.e. as magnification INCREASES reticle subtension DECREASES-- of course, at 24X it should be easy to measure with a yardstick (get the yellow ones since the black writing contrasts better), since when reticle ranging small tgts. reticle subtensions should be measured as accurately as possible (to the .1" if possible).

3.6"/X" = 24X/10X = 1.5"

+1 on get a yard stick.  Even better is a page of graph paper with 1" squares and 10 divisions in each inch.  The thing you NEED to do is find out exactly where your scope reads 3.6" at 100 yrds.  Some scopes are right on but most are off to one side or the other.  From there you can play with the power ring and make your own mil dot card for your scope.  Doing the math is handy but doing the measurements is the truth.  If your having trouble holding or defining the measurements at 100 yards you can cut the distance in half or even in a quarter then do the math, but verify it at 100 yds.

Cheers

Excellent comment, and thks. for the tip on the graph paper-- gonna try that. I actually had a pretty good system out the front window of my house-- there was a sign post at exactly 102 yds.-- Many street sign posts have holes drilled in them at exactly 1" intervals, and the holes themselves r usually .25"

Try Burris targets (there are a few others out there, but I cannot think of them off hand).  If you sight in at the center large dimond at 100yards, the two smaller dimonds should line up with your next mil-dots.  And the target is gridded in 1 inch increments.
