I've narrowed my choice down to a Meopta R1 Meostar 1-4X or an IOR 1.1-4X Tactical. The reticle on the Meopta looks like it might be a little hard to find in the daylight. Any thoughts or preferences? Any advice will be appreciated.

which reticle on the meostar are you considering?

and at what range/distance will the scope be used?

both are excellent quality glass > so i would consider eye relief and reticle choice.

i HAVE a meostar and am very happy w/ it - but folks on the site really like IOR.

J

Hi, Jonbravado: Sorry I left out that info: I was looking at the K-dot reticle and I will be shooting from 100 to 300 yards.

I do not currently have a Meopta, but I have played with several of them.  I do have a couple of IORs (and have played with/owned a dozen or so over the last few years).

Personally, I prefer the IOR.  The glass is a little better, and I the designs are a little more to my liking.

Between the two scopes in question (Meopta 1-4x22 and IOR 1.1-4x26), a lot depends on usage and which particular version of the scope you plan to get.  IOR's reticle is a bit more versatile (CQB reticle) and is quite a bit faster when the illumination is turned off.  It is also a little better in low light (when illuminated).  However, Meopta's illuminated K-Dot is ultimately brighter and if you need an illuminated reticle that works in bright daylight a la Short Dot, Meopta may be a better choice, since it has very simple (just a dot) and bright illumination.  It does not last very long though.

If you are looking for a hunting scope, I would seriously consider IOR Hunting 1.1-4x26 with #4a reticle and illuminated dot.  If this is going onto an AR for a tactical-type setup, for mostly short range/CQB stuff with an occasional foray into mid-range, Meopta may be a better choice.  For mostly mid-range work with an occasional foray into long range and CQB, IOR Tactical 1.1-4x26 with CQB reticle is the way to go.

Also, if this is going on a kicker, IOR has a noticeably longer eye relief.

ILya

Thanks, Koshkin. I think you've answered my question. I will be using this mostly for mid-range shooting. Also, in researching threads today, the consensus agrees with you that the IOR glass is better. Thank you for the input!
