I just bought a 270 Ackley Improved with a Mauser action.  Got a great price and look forward to sending a couple rounds downrange.  I am mounting a Bushy 4200 3-9X40.  Please offer suggestions on mounts and rings.  The builder of the gun mounted and ancient scope / base set up and drilled two additional holes in the rear base area??

B Square makes a 1 piece mauser base that is Weaver mount. It is aluminum and doesn't cost much so if you need to drill aditional holes (very carefully) in the mount to match the rifle you could do so. If that worked out I would get some Burris Signature Zee Weaver style rings. They have a plastic insert that grips the scope so it does not mar it. The inserts will move in a ball socket so as not to make stress on the tube of the scope. There is a kit  of off-set inserts also in .005"-.010"-.020" to help make the scope true up/down if needed. That wold make a sturdy mount.

If there are two holes in the rear bridge, it is probably easiest to use a two piece base (you may have to check the hole spacing with the maker of the bases).  For a two piece base, I would recommend Warne Maxima bases and rings.  I have had good luck with them.

If you want to use a one piece base, you need to know which exact action you have and measure the hole spacing.  I have use Farrell one piece base on my Mausers with good success, but there are many other good ones.

Perhaps, EGW makes something that fits your action.  I know they have Mauser one piece bases.
