Considering the Trijicon 1-4 with German #4 green dot.  I have heard variables will get the way of the hammer unless you put silly tall rings on.  I Wanna keep the scope really low and will go with a fixed 4 power if I have to.  I would like to stick with the Trijicon as I have been really impressed with the 2.5-10 I have.

Other options?  Scout scope mount? thoughts?  Brainstorming for a brush gun.

Thanks

I've mounted both a weaver v3 1-3x20 and a leupold vx2 1-4x20 with leupld medium rings and bases with no issues at all.  The trijicon in question is fairly similar in construction, though the eye box is some what bigger, I am not certain if this is going to make a difference or not?

Yah ... I was thinking about doing that as well ... This will be on a 444P Guide model so a pretty short carbine.  Have been looking at the XS mount and some scout scope options as well.  Decisions ... decisions

Id get the hammer extension with anything other than a scout scope. I have the 1-3X20 weaver mentioned above on my 45-70 guide gun and the scope bell would be in the way without it. My rifle came with the hammer extension.

I think I'd put a 2 moa dot Aimpoint 9000L on an XS scout base to bring the scope forward for a brush gun.  The Trijicon would be a good choice also but about twice the price.

Another option would be a Burris Fast Fire. I put one on my Win 94 in .32 Spl. I like it.

I have a 4x Leupold on my 45-70 with the hammer extension and it works great.

I was talking about the hammer extension working great, not the Leupold.  Big Grin

I created the same rig some 20 years ago with a marlin 444 and 1x4 redfield.  You can easily see and shoot with both eyes open on 1 power.  The 4x is handy if you come to a clearing or road.  The trijicon would be a definite up grade.  It has been a handy brush gun and good on small food plots for whitetail.

Mine came with a hammer extension.  It is no problem.  The leveroution ammo from hornady is much better than the flat points.

good luck.
