I need some advice.  I have this rifle on the way and need to pick out an appropriate scope.  It will primarily be used for hunting but I may try my luck with some long range target shooting as well.  I consider myself a prudent hunter and tend to pass on "hail mary" shots.  Looking for the best scope to accomplish both.  I've been looking at some of the high magnification nightforce scopes and competing products.  Many of there websites have ballistic calculators that do an impressive job of matching reticles to yardages out to 800 yards but at high magnifications.  If you dial them down to the 4-5 x range (where most hunting shots would be used) the gradations completely fall apart an can be off by 100-200 yards.  I'll be the first to admit I'm not an optics expert but this seems a little unpracticle for a guy who is not going to be dailing a scope in on the fly while an animal is passing by.  All advise/explainations welcome for the newby.

I prefer regular plex type reticles and some type of target knob for hunting. With my WBY zeroed at 200 it is virtually point and shoot out to 300 yards. I like the new VX-6 Leupold 3-18X44 or 3-18X50. Those models have CDS, so you can order custom knobs with your load specs. The knobs are also capped. They are great scopes for the money. I have an Accumark in 300 WBY and currently use a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X50 with target knobs.

Vortex also makes a Viper HS 4-16 with capped knobs similar to Leupold for half the money.  I do not have any experience with these, but Vortex seems to get a lot of good press from this forum.
