 Hey guys,

My Father gave me a pair of Binocs he has had for about 35 years. Some of the markings are difficult to see but it appears to have  Manon 7x50  Germany on them. It is puzzling because there is also an Asian symbol on the ocular end. Does anyone have info on these binocs ? Are they German, or a German marketing name ? Any help is appreciated. I won't be selling them, they are valuable to me because they were my Dad's(priceless). But I would like some info on them. They do seem to have pretty good glass in them.

                                          Thanks again ,   Derek

One of the more obvious things that you could do is use the google search engine and type in Manon binoculars.

I noticed that there are some for sale at e-bay. Perhaps a seller would be able to provide some valuable information to you.

It is not unusual for a German binocular to have been made in Japan, thus the two different markings.

Even today, binoculars from Germany, such as Minox, are being produced in Japan.

Thanks BW

I should have thought to google the name first. I have been checking this website so regular that I've begun to rely on it instead.

I found  th made in japan marking on it, but, still don't know why it has the  word Germany on it.

Derek

Derek,

It might be easier for you to "understand" if you were to read a Minox brochure.

This brochure mentions German-engineered, German engineers, German specialists, glass from SCHOTT AG, Mainz, Germany, Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, etc.

However, the binoculars are produced in Japan.

Kinda like buying an American automobile that has been assembled in Canada or Mexico.
