I've always had variable scopes on all my rifles. The only fixed scope I've owned is a Tasco 4X that resides on my 10/22.

I plan on buying a scope in the near future for my STW, but had every intention of getting a non-fixed scope with at least 20X on the upper end.

The main players are - Z-Conquest, V-PST, S-SIII.

Would anyone like to convince me that I would be as, or more satisfied with a SS 10x HD?

I think if you are unhappy with the SS you can get pretty much what you gave for it here with no effort at all. Big Smile

That being said, you are not looking at low budget scopes and would likely be happy with any of the ones you have listed. All the choices are good gear.

If you'll just be bench shooting and not trying to zoom in and out on something hiding in the woods trying not to get shot, then a fixed power makes great sense.

Thanks for the opines gentlemen.

ILya, I'm shooting a fast/flat magnum that I I've shot @ 1000 yrds, but that's really not my bag with the light rounds I load.
I split this rifle between hunting & bench, but bench is for fun, and not competitve by any means.
As I've stated in a previous post, this is a deer, coyote, paper, & occasional beer can puncher.
700 yards would most likely be max yardage.

I want to try a mil-dot. I've always used standard plex's.

I like the higher powers i.e 20X, but I notice folks are having issues with mirage, and "close in" targets when they can't dial down with a high end SS fixed, so maybe the 10X makes more sense plus I can add the "HD".
BTW ILya, you appear to be the most respected voice here, so I'm glad that you chimed in.
