Folks,

I am in the market for a new rifle scope.  I have narrowed my search down to three scopes under $500.00.  The Bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10 X 40, Nikon Monarch 3.3X10X 44 A/O and a Leupold Vari X III in the 3.5X10X40 (I think)

This scope will sit on a Weatherby 300 Mag, and will be used for Elk, and the occasional Wisconsin White Tail (when I feel like a change).

I know that all three manufactures have a strong following, however, I am really interested in determining the BEST scope for my money.

I would welcome any factual input.

Thanks

I personally would buy the Bushnell simply for the Rainguard coating.  If the rainguard is taken away, I think that the three scopes are pretty much equal.  Hope this helps.

I like all 3. I would probably go Nikon because of the great track record they have with me.

If it's a hunting scope, I wouldnt care for an AO though.

Waste of money, IMO.

Love an AO on a varmint/BR rifle though. Good selection of scopes. Any of the 3 should be adequate.

Ok,

Now everyone has me thinking,  and I'm interested in hearing more about the Zeiss Conquest.  Is this scope realllllly any better than the other three I mentioned?  I know it is in the same price range as the Leupold.

Would I be getting a BETTER scope if I spent the extra money on the Zeiss, instrad of the Nikon or the 4200?

See many other posts here.  It depends on who you talk to; I much prefer Leupold, but I was told today in another post here I don't know what I'm talking about  Bottom line:  go use them and make up you mind and then remember that famous saying "Believe none of what you read and only half of what you see".  Then you'll get something you'll be happy with.

mwyates will love hearing from me again, but if i were in Weatherbyman's shoes......

1.  Zeiss Conquest

2.  Bushnell Elite 4200 (a close second)

3.  Nikon Monarch (awesome scope)

4.  Leupold....an overpriced very good scope, but not for the money you will have to spend to get it.  "They have a great warranty tough", which makes them wortth the extra money Leupold is going to hit you for if you want one bad enough, according to mwyates.

bushnell elite 4200, the clearest of the 4, and has rainguard coating.

I'll take the Conquest, if you put it in your list!

The Zeiss Conquest is the best scope in it's class, IMO.

Go to a place that sells all the above, and see(no pun intended) for yourself.

Stack 'em!!

The Elite 2.5-10x40 would be your best choice in this catagory.Of the three the Bushnell will be the brightest and it's reputation for being the toughest goes without saying. It's not to say that the Leupold does not deserve the same reputation for durability, bit the Elite 4200 has earned a reputation of equal rugegness with superior opics.

Yeah, the Bushnell 4200 in 2.5-10 x 40 is a tough one to beat.  Don't forget about Burris either!
