I went to Wal-Mart last night to pick up some Christmas presents. My wife and I have made it a point to try and not buy anything made in China and to buy goods made in the USA whenever possible. Well let me tell you, there aren't many things on the Wal-Mart shelves these days that aren't made in China. Sam Walton and the Wal-Mart line used to pride themselves in selling USA made goods. Not any more. Next time your in the store, any store, pick up a few things and check where they are made. I'm using Wal-Mart here because thats where many of us do our weekly shopping but the same holds true for most if not all of our retailers. Some examples I found last night:
Timex Clocks - Made in China
Sharp Alarm clocks - Made in China
Mr Coffee Maker - Made in China
Rival Cookware - Made in China
All kitchenware and small appliances - Made in China
Black & Decker small appliances - Made in China
Coleman Sleeping bags - Made in China
Coleman flashlights - Made in China
Gerber Knives - Some made in Portland, Oregon some Made in China
Buck Knives - Same story
Most of the tools - Made in China
Computer / office chairs - All made in China
The list goes on. People wonder why our economy is bad and part of the reason is because we dont make anything here in America any more. Next time you are out shopping, take note of your purchases and buy American made goods whenever you can. Yes they may cost more on the sticker price but maybe not so in the long run.

Until we get rid of the Liberal hooplah that continues to wreak havoc on the tax structure and give businesses a reason to do business overseas, this will be a continued exercise in futility.

The Japanese have great concern with the Chinese, also. It is hard to compete with Sino labor costs.

Rant on, but you need to include a lot more countries than just China.. Brazil, Indonesia and on and on and on... Then there is the other side of mfg outsourcing, professional outsourcing known as Global Sourcing.  Corporate America keeps trying to convince everyone that we don't want labor jobs, let them go and educate the blue collar worker to convert to a white collar job... News flash... Those white collar jobs are outsourced at a feverish rate that would easily compare to the mfg jobs.  I've been in the computer field for 24 years and they are dumping American workers as fast as they can for India or Argentina or Brazil... The skills are horrendous but they work cheap cheap cheap....  Who benefits, Corporate Execs and board members and Wall Street...

We actually train them and then we lose our jobs... IBM champions this effort..  The American public has no idea how bad we are being erroded.  Nobody tracks the loss of these jobs.  There is no tangible product to track.. There is no 'Made in xxx' tag. The numbers are staggering...  Then of course the jobs that were never here, they just started the whole piece of business overseas and the service is sold back to US companies and consumers.. Those jobs are never seen, missed or counted... Then Big corporations violate the Hb1 visa program with no policing by the Federal Govt.  Corporations convince DC that they cannot operate without the cheap labor and there is a massive labor/skill shortage in the USA... HMMM, wonder why Computer Science majors (as well as engineers etc..) are at an all time low......  Wonder why we cannot fund our SS system and our local - state - federal tax base is depleting...

All jobs are needed, blue collar, white collar, service etc.... There is no sanctuary in the USA job market, all are being hunted to extinction.. These are the proving grounds of future leaders of our country, our companies, our govts... OH... I guess we will have to outsource those as well... We should be able to hire 100 global CEO's for what 1 US CEO cost....

I am outraged at any USA job that is sourced to another country no matter what the color of the collar.  Those billions of dollars to bail out Wall Street and the Car companies.. Many of those dollars support foreign workers that are employeed by these companies.. Thats right, part of your hard earn tax dollars just saved the jobs of people whom do not pay a dime into our countries infrastructure..... The whole system is sick, it's diseased and infected by greed.

I believe there is value in a global economy.  I believe that in most cases if you give people something to live for and share success then you deter the desire of war.  I believe in our countries governing system to be one of the finest in the globe.  But there needs to be fairness and balance.

The USA's infrastructure supports one of the best quality of life places on the face of the earth.  Our structure supports public education, fire, police, food protection, environmental protection and many many others. Our tax base provides these to us.  Corporate execs want to live here and benefit from our quality of life.   Billions of tax dollars are generated from the middleclass which supports this countries infrastructure.  Funny, but the greedy Execs are cutting their own throats when they source the very people that support them.  Not to mention how our recession has thrown the entire globe into a recession..

Everyone says to fix our economy put people back to work... The first step in that is to STOP THE GLOBAL SOURCING in all job categories.

Well I work at a sporting goods store and all we sell is Chinese made piece of crap stuff with American brands on them such as Browning, S&W, Winchester, etc. (not firearms, but accessories) I love it when people come up to me and ask if a $12 item is a good product  Roll Eyes

I was not referring to firearms rather accessories such as knives, flashlights, etc. Plus the store I work at is too cheap to sell a quality firearm such as a Browning

Sounds like our local Dunham's sports store. They sell nothing of use in there.

We too are flooded with CCC (cheap chinese crap) in South Africa. Mostly those that can afford it will not buy CCC as it just falls apart after a day or so. Ever tried to loosen a tight screw with a CCC screwdriver?
There should be a law against this stuff!

Not only are we flooded with the cheap crap.. But worse, they steal our ideas.  My brother has a few products that he has developed and getting patents on them.. The problem you face is when you take your product to trade shows the CCC spys come to them and detail out your product.  They go back to china and replicate the product and start selling all over the globe and a fraction of your price and quality.. Walla your idea is officially stolen.  No matter if you even have a patent.  There is truly little recourse.  Very few corporations have luck recovering and penalizing the CCC.  Takes incredible sums of money and time...... Welcome to Global Free trade.

I've been on this "kick" (there is a pun there) for a while.  I get a lot of "lip service", because LAZINESS drives our nation now.  There is little dedication, there is almost no effort on the part of the masses to avert the end of our great democratic republic.  It IS ending, and I fear it it not long.  Twenty years ago I started trying to warn people about China and its ambitions... no one listens, those who do call me names, laugh...  I won't be saying "I told you so" when my predictions come true.  The election of Obama, a person who is dishonest, corrupt, communist-socialist, and PROBABLY NOT A U.S. CITIZEN by birth (a Constitutional requirement for presidency, which most of the nation is IGNORING) is evidence of how far we have fallen already.  I am not certain we can "make a comeback".  The N. Y. Giants did, God Bless them (what a game), but we are on a different field of battle.  The American populace has become complacent, negligent, selfish, taken up with the "I'm gonna get MINE" attitude. Liberal schools have pushed the agenda and distracted parents have allowed their children to become dumbed-down flacks for liberal causes.
Here is a place where you can find American-made products... there ain't much there.

This is our problem.  We don't make sh*t here anymore.  We just consume. I liken our current econ. problems to an older person with pneumonia...when you're strong it's no big deal, but when you are weak it can kill you.

We borrow $ from China to buy more crap from China.  WTF.
