I am building an M1A with smith mount and medium rings mounting an SWFA 10x42. First time out to zero and the thing is obviously shooting low. I maxed out the elevation to hit 300 yds.

I obvisouly need some rings to give me the adjustment for range. What are some common fixes for this? Suggestions on 10 and 20 MOA rings greatly appreciated.

Yeah, but the M1A mounts are limited > The smith is what I shot years ago when I played arounf with the M14 before we got M21's. I just don't want to get the line of sight so dang high with an addition tot he base. Thanks for the input though!

What type of rings are you using? Could you post some photos? How tight did you tighten the mounting screws on the mount and ring.? And what did you use to tighten them with? That would help figure out what is going on. The SS 10x has I believe over 100MOA of adjustment so you should have plenty left over.

I have medium height Smith rings. I torqued the rings, mount and other screws with an inch pound wrench to the specs provided witht he smith mount and rings. Let me work on the pics.....

I had the top of the bottom post on the center of a 300 yd target with the elevation maxed to make it hit center mass. I am familiar with mil dot sights and ranging and just did that to see where it was hitting.

As for the range, I actually shot a 1,000yd match with an M14 when I was on the Hi Power National Match competition team, with iron sights, so I would expect at least that performance with an optical device. Of course, I need it now that my eyes are getting older!

Smith Enterprises angle is adjusted while the  side screw is loose by using the front screw shown at the front of the mount. See photo below.  Once that is adjusted then torque down the side screw.  You do not need different rings you need the mount adjusted properly.   Also note the front screw is held in place by a set screw on the front  right side as shown here.
