Anybody used these? Is the Lucas better than Dewey bore guides?
I know you buy the lucas guide plus insert....do you have to buy a different guide for each caliber, or can you use the same guide and different inserts? |

The Lucas is argueably the best bore guide on the market. Made specifically for each action, and the insert controls rod flex during the the time when the cleaning jag engages the rifling.
You can use a single insert for all rod sizesbut if you clean 30 cal and larger, and also 20-22 cal rifles, you use a different rod, so buy an additional, reduced ID bushing to gain the full benefit of the Lucas guide.
I have a barrel that was ruined with the other bore guide. Flex let the rod cut a groove in the rifling at the 6 O'clock position.

Some in the benchrest crowd might say that there is a more precise rod guide than the Lucas, but you know how those guys are... I'm sure they are talking maybe a thousandth or so and several times the price.
If you haven't bought your rod yet, Mike Lucas can give good advice as to the length you'll need, etc. (803) 356-0282 |
