I have a M4 flat-top I plan to use for hunting coyotes at night this winter in the snow and "when" snowing.  Last year I used a Burris FF2 4.5-14x42 that worked reasonably well but did cost me 1 coyote because I couldn't see well enough.  I would like to get a scope that is lighter, shorter, and lower in magnification for this application.  I was thinking about purchasing a bushnell elite 4200 3-9x40 over the nikon team primos because of the rainguard.   My budget is max $300. Suggestions?

Given what you want to spend, I'd say you are on the right track with the 4200.  And if nothing else, you'll have a fine scope to hunt with when the sun is up.

Well darn I had the perfect scope for you all the way up until reality set in with the $300 budget. I think a Trijicon Accupoint with its tritium & fiber optic illuminated reticle would be the deal. You might go wiht an aimpoint for not much more though.

$300 is a low price and really limits my options but I am a poor student that just bought a M4 and burris xtr for another rifle.  How about the nikon monarch 2-8x32? The only thing that worries me is that I will be using this scope in snowy conditions and thought rainguard would help. thanks for replies
