Hey fellas,

I am looking for the best low fixed power scope or low powered variable for my marlin 35 rem I have recently purchased.

 Any suggestions or thoughts?

I ve been thinking a 2.5x  or a 1.5-5 varible.  I want to keep it simple on this one. I would also like to get the best glass possible. So far I havent found much.

I have all but eliminated 30mm due to extra weight.

Thanks Bob

If you want fixed, get the 4x fixed from Kahles.  Excellent optics and you get better optics for the $$$ in a fixed relative to a variable scope.

If you want variable, get the 1-6x EE Swarovski Z6.

I have never looked through this particular Z6, but have looked through both the 1.7-10x42 and 2-12x50.  Absolutely outstanding.

Not sure what you mean by "keeping it simple" but these choices are meant to "give you the best glass possible."

There are a quite a few scopes that fit your criteria.  It would be helpful to know your price range though.  Here are the 1" scopes available:

Weaver K2.5 2.5x20, Sightron 2.5x32, Burris Fullfield2 2.5x20 and Leupold FX2 2.5x20 are the only decent 2.5x scopes I can think of of the top of my head.

As for low range variable scopes,
Sightron Big Sky 1.25-5x20 seems to be an awesome little scope.
Leupold VX3 1.5-5x20 is a good scope and comes in a bewildering number of configurations.
Trijicon Accupoint 1.25-4x24 is excellent and has the fastest acquisition reticle I can think of.
Weaver V3 1-3x20 is the "on a budget" option, but it is a nice little scope.
Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5-4.5x32 is a little bigger, but still quite compact.
Leupold VX2 1-4x20 is a decent scope.
Burris Signature Safari 1.75-5x32 is one of the best choices if this might go onto a kicker some day.
Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5x20 has, I think, been discontinued, but there are still a few floating around.

Thanks, I have seen some of those choices and the Trijicon has come up more than once.

Size and weight and durabillity are equal, but second to optics quallity. That said the new scope is going on a 38" lever gun. I feel a scope much over 10"-11" in OAL is too much. Max range of me and my rifle is 200 yards, average shot less than 50 yards!

Oh and low light capable is a must. I will be hunting the nothern spruce forest with it.

So much to choose from and I cant look or put my hands on some of the brands.

Top end is going to be like $600, bottom end $200 I have a Nikon 3-9x40 on there now , but it will be moving to my 06 as it needs an upgrade.

i would get a 1.5-6x42 kahles if i were you.

it's got the best of all worlds - get it with a #4 reticle if available.

or if you want something a little smaller, something like s 2-7x35 would be good as well.

i have a fixed 4x40 on my marlin - and aside from the plex reticle, i absolutely love it.

good luck.

actually - the kahles would overblow your budget by a good bit.

This would be a fine scope - i know you said you didn't want 30mm, but this would be solid and bright.

Try a Weaver V3.  It's light weight an won't throw off the balance of your rifle.  The euro brands my have better optics but they are HEAVY, even their small scopes.

I have on a savage 99 with the V3 and they work very well together.  I had to raise the cheek to get my eye to line up naturally which is a big part of making this set-up work well.  I keep it on 3x and I'm confident with it our to 300 yards.
