Received used burris 6-24x44 scope saturday from snappyauctions on ebay. inspection revealed almost yellow cast when looking at snow in neighbors yard; this scope has lost some of "brightness" (or should i say its contrast?). Front edge of scope bell has small gouge, as does tube just in front of power ring. images through scope appear sharp, but light transmission/contrast may be adversly affected wen mounted & shooting at 200 or more yards. did previous owner do something to degrade lens coatings, or did the obvious abuse cause air leak into the tube? any thoughts really appreciated/ chaz

Chazgreen,

Don't know but send it to Burris anyway.  They are supposed to honor a Forever warranty on their stuff. See what they say.

Doesn't sound right.  Send it to Burris for repair.

Makes me wonder if they used something "funny" to clean the lens with and rubbed off some of the coatings?

gents/ i dont think burris warranty covers abuse, which i suspect is the cause of the problem, whatever its genesis is. i have two swift scopes, a bushnell legend, and a leupold; none of them have this "attribute". the swifts are a much less expensive scope, & if this were to develope anywhere, i suspect it would start here. but i take very good care of my scopes, ie, keep them covered whenever i clean my firearms. could some highpower bore solvent on the objective lens cause the lens coating to degrade?? what do you think?

I dont think burris warrantys anything. I have sent a fullfield ll that the top cross broke loose. They basicly told me I was SOL. Has anyone had a good experience with burris warranty?

If Burris warranties a damaged scope tube or lense coatings, I'll sell all my Elites.
