Considering an updgrage to my bino's.  Currently use Leopould Pinacles 10x42.  They worked good for about five years but not real clear and get a headache when glassing for more than an hour.  Looking at the Votex Viper HD's in 10x42.  Also, have cabelas gift cards and points which will cover $600 with no money out of pocket.  Does anyone have experience with the Vortex glass?  I would love Swaroski's but don't want to drop 2K on bino's.  Any help would be appreiciated.

My dad and I checked out the Viper HDs side by side a while back with the Swaros and Zeiss.  Both of the Euro brands were slighly sharper, but not $1400 worth.  The Viper HDs had very good glass, in my opinion, for the money, and were very sharp with good color rendering.

I'd just about place a public bet here that those Pinnacles have been knocked out of collimation.  Focus on a power line and move the glass away from your eyes, maintaing line of sight on the power line.  I bet it splits.  First thing is send it to Leupold.  If that fixes it then at least you have a good backup.

The Vipers will be a good glass as you have that much in gift cards from Cabelas.  Might consider the Cabela's Euro HD too.

Yes, by all means, send it in to Leupold for collimation.

You won't be disappointed. Big Grin

+1.

Pinnacle is a decent binocular and if all of a sudden it started performing, badly, send it to Leupold for a refresh.

Viper HD is hard to beat for the price. Cabela's Euro HD is quite bit havier than Viper HD, I also did not like their eye cups, but glass is great!
