I'd like to try my hand at using a mil-dot reticle. Got some M2 ball .30-06 to use for the exercise. Budget is kind of tight, $200-$250. Suggestions? Opinions? First hand knowledge? Thanks!

One of the best values on the market.  Leaves enough that you can also get the Mil-dot Master, which will eliminate a lot of "up front" problems.
Welcome to the OT, BTW.

If you can stretch your budget just a little bit more, the 10x Super Sniper would be a very good purchase for you, my friend.

If you want a fixed power scope, you won't beat this one with a stick (but you could and it would still work)...

Without a doubt the best buy in a mil-dot scope of relatively entry level quality is the Mueller TAC-II.  Another to consider is the Hawke Frontier.  Both are Japanese made.  Both I own and have excellent optics, the clicks are reproducible and the build quality is good.  CS from both companies is excellent, although I have never had to return a scope.  I also own the Bushnell 3200 10x40 and it is also an excellent scope, but fixed.  The Frontier model I am referring to is not the super expensive model.

Thanks for all the responses. Great to know I have options. Thought I was going to have to spend much more $$$. BTW here's a couple of links to the reading that peaked my interest in the mil-dot reticle. Thanks again!
