All,

I am looking for a reasonably priced scope for a new build. The platform is a Savage Arms 110 FP in .308. I am looking to spend between $500-$700 on a decent scope. Looking to make accurate (1/2" MOA at 100 yards) shots out to 300 yards and be able to keep it together at 500 yards.

 I happen to have a 10fp that I put in a thumbhole stock(from Stocky's) and have a SS20x mounted on it.
I went with the 20x because of older eyes and this is a paper puncher only, so imo if your eyes aren't getting old and you only want it for target look at the 16x or the 20x super snipers they are a great scope for the money.
Oh by the way as of right now I'm shooting .65-.75 @ 100 but I am still working up loads. My tightest groups are with 150gr psp being pushed by 40 gr. of IMR4895.

Get the new variable 3-9x Super Sniper.  It would be perfect for your needs.  http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Tactical-Riflescope-P41044.aspx

Its being tested against scope twice its price and the testers are picking it over them.

If you made it slim and trim with a shorter barrel and kept the weight under 9lbs. I would do the scope supertool suggests or a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40 if I needed more money left over.  It would be too much to have one of the 2lbs. scopes on top.

If you are going to shoot out in the desert some where on the way towards Arizona I think the better glass of the SS variable would show up....lots and lots of mirage.

Just north of you in Ramona I used to go shoot with some friends, its not as bad as the desert further East, but some times still enough mirage to make a soda bottle at 200 yards seem funky.

I believe you should look at the nikko stirlings...or the SWFA lineup...
