This is my first time posting.  I am looking for a rifle scope for my weatherby 300 WSM i would like to spend no more than 500 bucks.  I have been told Leupold or nikkon to go with but not sure what model i want something with a 40mm or 50mm front optic and either a 3X9 or 4X12 any help would be good.  I also heard shepard scopes are good to but expensive also I would like a  mil dot reticle or a range finding retical like the shepard scopes.  Eas looking for scopes and found this one I have been a active duty MP and shot some countersniper courses I loved their scopes but i forget the name of them.  I found this one does anyone have any experience with it and know if it is a good deal or a sham?

The SS is a great scope, but I didn't care for 16x or 20x and I wouldn't recommend them for hunting either (10x would be fine but I think you would be happier with a quality variable).  I think the consensus here would be varied but most would recommend the Bushnell Elites, Nikons, Leupolds (although not as cost effective) Burris or a Sightron.  I would recommend looking for the features that you want in the above brands, finding a store that allows you to compare them side by side and then ordering from SWFA to save some money.

I looked at some stores around here in the midwest and they do not carry much mil dot scopes they carry one leupold with it and it costs is about 679 bucks and i figured that is to much.  I will keep looking around I need to get one with in the next 2 weeks for sure.  Thanks for the help

The best deal for a mil-dot scope, IMO, is a Sightron 3-12x42MD or 4-16x42MD depending on which magnification range you prefer.

You can also look at some Burris Signature Select scopes with a Ballistic MilDot reticle (there will be some in your price range).

Shepperd scopes are not worth fooling with, IMO.

Also check out Nikon Monarchs and/or Buckmaster line too.

It's fogging on the INSIDE that needs to concern you, not the outside. All Nikon's are nitrogen filled, and shouldn't leak. Most modern scopes are the same.

Sounds like more "Urban myth", gun store expert crap to me.

Welcome to OT!!

Good luck on your choice, and do please tells what you end up with, Sir.

Does leupold make a mil dot scope in the VX 1 or VX 2 or is there one model made for mil dot?  I am debating between Nikon Buckmasters with the mil dot but i can not find a leupold in the same price range with a mil dot.

thanks,

Ribs
