Can a "rifle" scope handle the heavy recoil of Mossberg shotguns???

 Sure.
 Most of the better ones can handle it pretty well. The cheaper ones not so much.
 And semi-auto shotguns are particularly hard on scopes. That massive  bolt slamming back and forth can put out a pounding!

I've had no issues with Bushnell 3200 2x7 's, Pentax 2-5 Whitetail unlimited Browning 2-7 's , and 4200 Elite 1.5-6's

I used a Weaver V3 for years on a 12ga slug gun. No problems with recoil at all.
