Hello:

I am in the process of haveing a new long range rifle built in .300 win mag  on a Dakota 76 action, canjar trigger, macmillan A-5 adjustable stock and am looking for a scope to do the job of smoking a gopher  at 1000+ meters .I am currently considering the 5.5-22x Nightforce or the Super sniper 16x. Just wondering what your thoughts are on these two scopes are or if you can suggest maybe something better. I have always used a mil-dot scope but am open to trying newer recticals. My current scope is a Bushnell elite 4200 6-24 on a savage vbss 12 in .223 on a choate ultimate sniper stock. this is an excellent combination for me for smoking gophers out 600 meters. Time to reach further.

Have a good one EH!!

One option is the new IOR 9-36x56 MP8il.

Im not put my hands on it, but sure is a winner !! (it offer a lot of features, top glass, sunshade, rings....and is not too costly). For me MP8 reticle if far better than original mildot reticle ( and as good as the gen 2 mildot ).

Take a look at the Zeiss 6-24x56 Davari VM/V 30mm also. Will have a bit more power than than the Nightforce as well as better glass. If you need more power or scope than consider the US Optics. The IOR wouldn't be a bad route either.

Zeiss Diavari, US Optics or even the new XOTIC Ultimate Sniper scope would all be good choices for your application.

I'd take a good look at the new TMR reticle by Leupold-- mil-dot with line stadia instead of dots, and positioned at both 1, and .5 mil.

IF PRICE IS NO OBJECT - AND YOU WANT THE BEST - I doubt anybody would argue that a S&B or US-optics is the answer.

Nope. No argument from me on either one.

I would go with the USO though, because I'm fond of my SN-3.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

S&B is an acceptable choice but my sniper school instructor friend has a brother who has one and has had really poor service from S&B.   US optics is set up for .223 or .308 ONLY -  He's building a  300win mag, besides US Optics is a fixed 10X.    And a fixed 10X  is not exactly the perfect varmit scope even though it is a fine choice for a tactical scope. ("a scope to do the job of smoking a gopher  at 1000+ meters" ).  My first thought is walk closer,  but any of the VXIII  6.5-20 or 8.5-25 would be ok but it might be really nice to have the M1 style knobs on the Mark 4   8.5-25 to adjust your clicks for windage and elevation easily. Another choice might be the Super Snper 20X and spend the difference on ammo.

There is a reason that the majority of scopes on our sniper range are Leupold tactical scopes

Not all USO's are fixed 10 powers. Not sure what you meant by that.

ST10 are fixed, but SN-3's ae variable.
