I am new to this forum and am asking for help in deciding on a new scope. I am looking for a scope for long range hunting which once I have sighted it in for 300 yards I would only have to adjust the reticle to ranges beyond say 500, 600 etc. In other words, instead of holding over, I can turn a turret so that the reticle would line up with the target's vitals. I assume I would have to do some interpolation between each subsequent 100 yards unless there is a scope that allows for smaller adjustments.
I welcome your suggestions and input. Thanks. deefed |

The reticle is fixed, it does not change. Depending on which focal plane it is in, the reticle may change size. If I understand your question you are looking for a knob adjustment, not a hold over reticle? Kahles makes something that MAY be what you want. It will let you set differant zeros. Those are still Zeros. So if your range finder gives you something in between zeros you will still have to hold over or under. If that is not what you want then you turn the knobs and take your chances (with pratice and testing you can get very good at it). |

all scopes will do what you want, just remember the numbers on the turret, for that range but swaro is bringing out a "balllistic turret" that is just what you are describing.

You can buy a number of different scope that have target knobs on them. Then if you want a turret customized for a specific round and caliber, you can go to kenton industries and have them made. I did this on my Burris Black Diamond for my 300 Win Mag. Works great. It is zeroed at 100 yards and I can turn the knob all the way out to 1000 yards.

.... all great advice .......... if you have enough time to adjust the aquisition of the target ... still targets ? The mil-dots and etc. are good when the target may be moving and there's no time to adjust your target knobs ... but if you're talking moving .... you may only have seconds to hit the kill zone . Depends on what you're killing ... live flesh or paper .... what's your primary target ? You can also get the scopes with both worlds .... hold over rectiles with taget knobs .
