have a custom 50 bmg, want to put a quality long range scope on it. the problem i am having is there are no scopes with high power and high MOA adjustment. it appears that i will have to give up power to get MOA adjustment. two questions!!
1. is there a way to boost the power on a scope with out loosing MOA adjustment? i was told that there are companies that can boost the power of a scope.

2. whats the best scope out for long range shooting? I am looking at night force.

Thanks for the help!!

You could get a 16x or 20x super sniper.  They have over 100 MOA of adjustment.

anything over 20 or over will work on a 50- remember higher powers come with mirage problems and resolution problems. image multipliers can be put on a scope, but degrade the image. the size of your target also makes a big difference

at the lower end of the price scale of scopes that are in this catagory nf is a good choice.

uso

schmidt and bender

diavari  are better/

You sound like a bit of a novice wit hyour question about moa -vs-magnification so Id ask the following:

What ranges are  you  realistically  planning on shooting?

What target size/type?
Makes difference in selection.

You can always go to NEAR Mfg and have a 40 moa base spec'd for  your rifle.

My guess is if you spent the money on a custom 50, you have money to spend on a scope to match.

I recommend USO, plenty of elevation adjustment, plenty of magnification.  If you can't spenmd $3k, look at 5.5-22 Nightforce.  If you can't spend $1,500, buy a 10X Super Sniper and a 20MOA base (and keep saving till you can afford the NightForce or USO.

The Premier Heritage is also a good scope (as I have heard, don't own one yet) and has plenty of elevation adjustment.

in short: be ready to spend qat least $1,500 for a good optic for your 50.  If you cannot, get the $300 SuperSniper while yousave for the better optic that will stay on the rifle permanently.

On my .50 bmg target rifle I use a Leupold 6.5x20x50 LRT. Using a 500 yard zero and a 20 min base with barrett adjustable rings I could get out to 2,000 yards. I zero the scope at the very bottom of the adjustments leaving me about 70 minutes of elevation. With a 100 yard zero you can reach about 1800 yards. The most important thing is to get the most elevation out of your scope.  I had a Super Sniper on it for a short time but it broke. The glass is much better on the Leupold also. (20x S.S.) The Leupold was very clear and had no problems with tracking all the way through the elevation range.

Be advised that if you "bottom out" the elevation, you significantly diminish the windage adjustment.

I shot 50s back in the day, didn't ever have need for shooting at 2,000 yards, but it's nice to say you can, I guess.

You are correct about the windage adjustments. But if you are careful with your mounting of the scope and it is square with the bore you wont have a problem. I have never run out of windage.

Some of the semi auto Barrett 50s in Iraq use Schmidt and Bender 10Xs. There is a great video out there of a sniper shooting one. You can watch the rail and scope actually flex with no ill effects. Amazing!
