I have a 1926 Mosin Nagant that shoots (almost) like a dream. It's accurate, but I need a brass tap to adjust the windage.

To avoid having to carve up my beautiful old gun, I've been thinking about getting a long eye relief scope to fit onto the rear sight.

I'll be completely honest. I don't know a whole lot about scopes, so I'm here to get some suggestions. I know to stay away from NcStar products, and I need something that can handle relatively heavy recoil. My price range is about $150.

I don't need to split hairs, just a long eye relief scope that isn't going to fall apart under duress.

Thanks!

I did the same thing on a Mauser and used a 2x Leupold handgun scope and a Buehler one- piece base which was a drop-in fit inside the Mauser's rear sight frame... beautiful. Fast target acquisition and sleek profile.

That scope never failed or changed zero and fired maybe a thousand 7.65 Arg rounds, 150 gr around 2900 fps w/Norma 201. That's about the same power class as your Moisin Nagant.
You could Use a Leupold FX-II to achieve the same result.
You won't break a Leupold FX-II with that rifle.

I apologize- wrote all that and didn't notice your price range- I'll leave it up in case someone else is interested.
Any major brand EER/Scout/Handgun scope would likely suffice. Stay away from the Chinese stuff.
Maybe this one: http://swfa.com/Nikon-2x20-Encore-EER-Handgun-Scope-P45672.aspx

Any 2x pistol scope will work fine in a scout configuration on 91/30.  I would probably loook at Swift 2x20.

The best scout mounts for Mosin rifles are made by Darrel (if you do not have on yet).

How about Leapers? I've heard mixed reviews.

Elite 3200 handgun scopes has too much eye relief for using as a scout on 91/30.  It becomes a bit uncomfortable.

Weaver handgun scopes will work better, especially the 2x28 model.

Anyone have experience with the "Swift 2-6x32 Premier Pistol Scope" on a scout setup?
