I just recieved the new L.L. Bean Hunting Catalog and see that they now have L.L. Bean branded scopes.  I think I've seen their binoculars before but I never remember seeing scopes.  I'm really not interested in purchasing one but just wondered if anyone new anything about either thier scopes or binoculars or if anyone knows who makes them.  FYI, they offer the scopes in :
1.5-8x36
2-10x40
3-15x44

Prices range from $250-$350

They look an awfully lot like the Bushnell 3200 line of scopes.  That would be my take on it.

Almost nobody is doing 5x erectors and the only one that comes to mind doesn't do them in those magnification ranges.

L Bean scopes are surely not German/Austrian products for this price.  After some checking, I now think that they may be made by Weaver.  Weaver has the 5:1 erectors.  The rest is done with lens configurations.

Actually, if you have ever been inside LL Bean's.  It is not only a place for "granola hippies", but is the biggest collection of "stuff" for outdoorsman that you have ever seen.  Most hunters and fishermen in southern Maine depend on Bean's.  I was raised in Harpswell, Maine and was a kid with no money from an island, but a trip to Bean's just to look was the highlight of my year!  Piles and piles of good stuff!  Believe me when I say that we nor any of the fisherman on our island knew what a granola bar looked like or was for!

I think their scopes fall into that big - who cares -  pile with the rest of the junk optics because at $250 to $350 you can get a pretty good scope like a fixed power Super Sniper or a sightron or something from companies that actually know optics.

The disappearing post from Unimaginaryfind?  It was here but now it is gone through some mysterious means but I received the email.

Well, if you grew up in southern Maine when I did, where you could not even buy a fishing rod worth the trouble to use it, Bean's was a welcome relief.  To answer your question Unimaginaryfind, I do not work for Bean and live in Blight-on-the-border, Washington about 3000 miles away from the nearest Bean place of employment.  Bean's was simply a boy's bright spot in an otherwise not very inspiring childhood.

I NEVER know if it is appropriate to talk about anyone like Bean's on this site?  Is this entire post inappropriate?  I never know on this site because so many righteous protectors will jump-your-XXXX, if you say anything that they don't like.  The only thing in the world that Bean sells that is remotely close to SWFA's business is a few (probably) crummy Bean labelled scopes.  That having been said, can we move on now?

They also have a decent hunting/fishing show on the Outdoor Channel, I think it's called Guide to the Outdoors or something like that and I think it airs on Saturdays if I'm not mistaken.

L L Bean has always been known for their quality products.  Their new line of scopes though???????????????????????????????????????  I hope they researched them well!  Us hunters/shooters are sticklers anymore as far as expecting quality products for our hard earned money,as it should be.
