That is pretty cool.  Fun watching it.  Sometimes I wonder if the deer get so dependent on the feeder that if you took it away, they would not survive, or really struggle with it.

No, they never depend on the feeder for their entire diet.  They much prefer natural forage while it exists.  Feeders don't spread out enough corn in each throw to provide sustenance, only a snack.  In my experience, when certain high quality natural food sources (acorns, tender browse plants, for instance) are readily available, they will hardly even come to the feeders.  Corn provides little nutritional benefit beyond carbohydrates.  They need other sources of food to get their required protein and minerals.

Too much corn is bad for their digestion. It causes an embalance in the enzymes used to break down other forage. We have stopped putting out "corn piles". For one thing foxes like to pee on a pile of corn and then nothing else wants to go there. And second if you scatter the corn it keeps one dominant deer from hoggin it to themselves.

Thats pretty interesting I never knew that too much corn for deer was bad for the digestion. I also heard that deer really like apples that are a little rotten, any truth to that?
