Hello all, I need a little help deciding how to mount up a new sii big sky 6-24x42 1" scope I have coming for my Howa 1500 HB varmint in .308. The factory advertised spec for the scope elevation is 60. I want to be able to reach 600yd but the majority of use will be for 2-300yd paper punching. Probably will use Burris XTR rings but not sure if I'll need an increased moa rail. I don't want to bottom out the elevation to get a 100yd zero. Also can't find much on who makes rails for my rig other than EGW. Right now I have a 4200 3-9x40 sitting in Talley medium one piece rings. Actually have been quite pleased with the 4200, but wanted some more power. I'm not dead set on a rail so if anyone has a better idea I'm listening. Thanks for any help. I've been lurking for awhile and found the site to be invaluable to my scope learning curve.

Ask yourself what is the majority of your shooting distance gong to be at?  There is no reason to set up a gun to shoot at 600 if your realisticly never going to have access to the range at that distance or only going to shoot that far once every year or so.  Go with just a standard rail with no cant built in or the talley's you already have.   If you got into a perfect senerio situation and zero'ed your scope at 100 an it fell right in the middle you'd still have 30MOA up adn 30 MOA down.  Given your load how much do you need to reach 600?

I completely agree with SVT.
If you plan to shoot 600 yards or greater all of the time, then it is beneficial to have a canted base.
It will allow you to maximize your internals to prevent you from topping out.
If you range is less, then it is not nessecary for you to have a 20 minute base.
