I am thinking of embarking on another project: light carbine.

I am looking for something with a pencil barrel, free floated handguard of some sort and flat top.

Bravo Company makes a few of these.  What are my other options?

Bushmaster has the carbon 15 that is probably the lightest you can get.

I have not seen those offered as an upper half only.

Also, it looks all them have 1-9" twist barrels, which is not good since I have standardized on 77gr SMKs on my ARs.

Interesting.

I have a 20" YHM upper and I am generally happy with it.

I do not like forends with rails all over the place, but I am sure that can be resolved.  I need to find out how much BCM uppers weigh.

Those YHM rails are really light.  I had a full rifle length and when it was off the barrel it always surprised me how light it was.  They are sharp though, but just putting those little plastic covers over them fixes it easy enough.
