THIS book is really good! Somebody at the YMCA gave me this a couple of years ago and I stuck it in my bookshelf. I figured I'd get around to it eventually. Well, I grabbed it the other day and it's very good. The author's second book. It's all about 1914 in the town of Rye in Sussex and the start of The Great War. I seem to be in a period where I'm reading a lot of these English books about young women from this time period and the Twenties and the Interwar Period....the Maisie Dobbs series....The Painted Veil... plus last summer I binge-watched eight seasons of Downton Abbey from the Public Library....!!! next I will send for Ken Follett's FALL OF GIANTS.... |

Well this book was fantastic! I will have to get Meghan to read this. It would be the perfect launching pad to begin reading the Maisie Dobbs series. Well these two books arrived yesterday in the same package. I guess I accidentally ordered them from the same place and didn't realize it. So now I will start on A DANGEROUS PLACE....but the Maisie Dobbs series continues on thru time and after starting out in 1910 we are now in 1937.... Edited by Son of Ed - May/12/2022 at 20:43 |

 As you remembered from our last episode Maisie Dobbs is returning reluctantly to England from her sojourn in India when she decides to delay her arrival in England by disembarking at Gibraltar. She is suddenly embroiled in a murder case when she accidentally stumbles---literally---over the body of a murder victim. Soon she is up to her neck in a mystery with the British Secret Service, The Gibraltar Police Force, Communists, and the Spanish Civil War! It is April 1937. Guernica has just been bombed.  |
