Finally picked up one of the MK2 Leupys.  Really nice scope.

I have not mounted it yet, but is is typical high quality Leupy.  The Turrets have a crisp and tacticle feel.  Better than some of the mushy MK4 turrets.

I know a bunch of folks have been asking about this scope.

There is a writeup on Gunblast.com on it.

More later.

Should be nice to have the mid size knobs but I dont think Kenton makes knobs for it so it might be better to order direct from Leupold and have them engrave the knobs with balistic info on them and possibly balistic match the reticle. In any case I'm thinking this scope was intended for Police type use under 200 yds and not a true long distance setup as the glass will most likely be VX II quality - seems that the power ranges suggest they used VXII for the basis for this scope.  Note most  VXIII scopes can have custom shop target or M1 knobs as an add on feature when ordered and can have balistic info engraved on the knobs.

Watched a terrific special on the production of high end lenses and scopes .  From raw materials to finish . The cost in worse to best is very minimal ... we're getting screwed on the price difference ... as if I'd have to tell anyone that fact .

just mounted the Mark 2 on my Rem LTR.  Even lapped the rings a bit.  First time for that.  I did not take it down to bare metal all around.  Not sure I need to with TPS rings.

All that lapping and my tongue is sure tired.

Will post some pics of Mark 2 on the rifle soon.

Did the sun shade come with it or no?

I really am happy with it.  I know it is not the best Leupy quality glass but it works great for me.  The turrets are really great.  short profile and very distinct and audible clicks.

I wanted this rifle to be light and that is what it is with this scope.

I guess what I am wondering about the Mk2 is how the clicks feel - on the PR scopes with target style knobs with covers the clicks are really crisp and feel good and the M1 style on the Mk 4 feel different - tighter - more resistance I guess would be the best way to describe the difference.  So I am wondering if these have the same feel as t he PR scopes but in a shorter knob?

http://www.kentonindustries.com/  I see Kenton is making balistic compensated replacement knobs for  the MK2 that might be a good investment for you.  I broke down and bought some a couple of months ago and I really like them. I really think I like the speed dial style and the long range hunter style better than the others as they give breakdowns for each  25 and 50 yd mark.

The knobs are pretty stiff compared to the VX II high target knobs.  Probably the same as the PR you mentioned.

For your AR, why go any more powerful than a 3-9?  Keep it light.  You ought to look at the Mark 2.

I have two other .308 bolt guns.  An FN PBR XP and Rem SPS Tactical.  I am modifying my SPS as I write.  Will pick it up Sunday.  I installed a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock and an OPS, Inc muzzle brake.  I will mount my Burris XTR 3-12x50 on that.

My FN will have the IOR 6x42 mounted on it.

Waiting for new aluminum low TPS rings to mount the scopes.

I just get to that $500 plus price range and it might as well  be a thousand like a Leu Mk4 4.5-14x50 duplex and if I get to that $250 range of the decent 3-9 and it  think $299 super sniper or I  think 3x vs 4x on the low end isnt much difference but 9x vs 16x is huge and adjustable parallax of a 4200 bushnell 4-16x40.  Then reality sets in and M4 type guns are ment to be light fast quick to acquire a target so EOTech or Comp M4 Head%20Banger
That must be why they make quick release mounts.
