I'm thinking about a VX3 4.5-14x40 with this reticle for my 22-250. I have heard that this reticle was designed around the 22-250, is this true? Anybody have any opinions on this reticle for varmints out to 600 yards? I am also open to other suggestions on scopes with similar reticles, with this leupold being on the top of my price range.
Thanks

Most  22-250 rifles have a twist rate designed to stabalize about a 50 gr bullet. Out to about 300 yds you are good to go with a 50 gr bullet past that you need to think heavier bullet like a 77 gr SMK which will work fine at 600 yds but needs about a 1 in7 or 1 in 8 twist.  When you say varmits there are two ends of the posibility list - prairie dogs = higher magnification and coyotes = need for  illuminate reticle possibly lower power.  If you are talking prairie dogs and small critters
If you want illumination  for coyotes and the mil dots can be used for hold over marks.

Urimaginaryfrnd- this scope will be for my Rem SPSV with a 1-14" twist. It is used for prairie dogs, paper punching and coyotes. Last year I had a confirmed kill on a prairie dog at 485 yards with a crap bushnell banner scope that was almost unusable at the end of the trip. So even tho its not the ideal twist I know it can be done with lighter bullets as my 1-14" twist won't stableize over 60 grains.

And thanks for the scope suggestions, as I know both are extremly good scopes. My dad has a SIII on his Bushmaster and it's great. but in my original post I mentioned that the leupold was at the upper end of my price range($675).  And the scopes you mentioned are $800+

I liked this reticle very much:

I don't remember what power the other triangle was on, I always used it on max power.

Thanks, cool pics. I just wanted to make sure that the big triangle was used on max power and not a lower power like some mil dot scopes are calibrated. Would it be the same on the 6.5-20 version?

Personal choice, I mounted the same scope on a 22-250 also I wasn't happy with the LVR...I went back to the mil-dot Elite 4200 6x24...Last year I got two kills over 500 yards on PD's......

It doesn't look near as busy as the Zeiss Conquest Rapid Varmit reticle (whic has a built in range finder) or my Swarovski BRX.  If possible trey to look at all three of them at the same time.

the higher magnifications are used for flatter shooting trajectories, reducing the power has the effect of lowering the center in relation to the target causing the shooter to raise the reticule and poi, thus lower powers work for cartridges not as "flat'. the reticule is modified german #4 and the scope works great.

I liked it very much when I had one, and I observed many prairie poodles taking instant dirt naps inside the FOV of the VH reticle!
