Hunter, I've used the vxii 1-4x20 quite abit and actually really like it.  It's the only vxii that I'd recommend. I'm not sure if this helps, but the scope are very simular in size.

Use a mk4 1.5x5 a lot. but with different reticle than vx line. Only complaint is the zero stop isn't as postive as it should be and the clicks for the elevation. Not a problem on the vx for hunting however. Scope is used on an ar carbine where there isn't anytime or much of a stock to get "set up" correctly.

I have an older VariX-III in 1.5-5x20. Eye positioning is very forgiving and the scope is all around a great unit.
The biggest differences between mine and the newer version appear to be better glass and fast focus.
Also, look at the heavy reticle for better low light performance.

I'm curious as to what leupold is going to be bringing out in 2011, they've discontinued the vx7 line and the G/R bino's.  Any rumors?

Hunter my oldest boy bought a VXIII 1.5-5x20 for his 7mm.  Really likes it.  I have used it a couple of times at our range and the eyebox seems very forgiving to my eyes.  Optics seem pretty good and the light weight is a bonus.

I looked through a VX3 before settling on a similar 1.5-4.5x20 Monarch.  I did not see the $100 plus dollar difference.
