I'm thinking about topping my 300 H&H with this scope and would like to hear from  folks that have used this scope.

VERY GOOD all around power range.  I used a Vari-X III 3.5-10x40AO on my .300 for 25+ yrs and never wanted for more or less power.  Can only imagine that the VX3 in that configuration would be NICER.

I think that you could find a better scope than that for the same price range (469.95 - 559.95 on SWFA's site)

The Zeiss 3-9x40 with z-plex reticle is 399.95 and you'd have better glass with the #4 reticle its $499.95 (http://swfa.com/Zeiss-Conquest-Rifle-Scopes-C239.aspx)  The extra 1x you'd never miss because of the extra optical quality you are getting.

The Vx3 is pretty decent and yes there are many options with in this price range. I think the Vx3 is arguably as good as any scope in the $400-$500 category, so if your set on Leupold I don't think your giving up much to the competition.  Though I do think you should look through the conquest just to satisfy your curiosity.

It is a very good combination.
My re-stocked 300H&H Sako loaded with 200gr Sierra Gameking has accounted for buck from 50m out to 350m+
Off course topped with a 3,5-10x40 Leupold.

The 3.5-10x40 Leo is a great hunting scope in the mid-price range. Like 300S&W, I have an older version and it still is a very good scope. It is very forgiving of eye postion, sits low and is not very heavy. The low weight helps reduce stress on the mounts. That helps with .300 mags on up.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I just put a conquest 3x9x40 on my sako and so far it seems like a good scope. I'm leaning towards the leupy partially because of the bolt clearence on a 1951 M70, I don't think the bolt would clear a Zeiss.
