I have the VX2 3-9x40 with the CDS turret for my 450 Bushmaster. While hunting yesterday, I was looking thru the scope across a field and it didn’t seem to have that “wow factor”.
I could get a VX3’ 3.5-10x40 with a CDS dial and swap dials with and then sell my VX2 and the new CDS certificate to help defray the cost. Just wondering if I’ll notice any significant difference with the VX3i over my current VX2? I need to stay with a 1” tube. Thanks.

I've had a VX2 and VX3i... the 3i has slightly (when I say slightly, I mean it does not jump up and hit you in the face, but the differences are noticeable) better resolution and low light performance. I still have 2 3i scopes, no longer have a VX2. However, overall performance is pretty close...differences begin to be more apparent in less than optimum conditions. If you do a lot of very early and/or very late hunting, hunting in adverse weather, the 3i is probably a better choice.

Thanks Kickboxer - my other issue with the VX2 is the rather “weak” looking reticle whereas the VX3i has this ZL reticle which I think is more of a heavy duplex type.
Maybe I can look thru one at Cabelas and get a decent idea what they look like. I’ve been spoiled by the heavy lines on my Swarovski with the 4A reticle - best ever one I’ve seen. Thanks.

Leupold custom shop can install whatever reticle you like. The price is reasonable. I had them install a #4 reticle in a FX3 6X42 a few years ago. I also had them use a gloss finish on that scope. You might give them a call.
