The Leupold 2-12x42 Illuminated reticle is not cheap for starters.

However, I would be ok with that if it will satisfy a few of my needs.

It needs to be multipurpose....ie. work on my AR15 and my Remington 700 in 30.06.

For the AR I shoot a variety of ranges and targets. I would like to be able to stick a hog in the ear from 250 yards. But I would also like to be able to drop to one knee and drop a hog charging me between 5-20 yards while walking and stalking.
And I'd like to be able to have fun with it at the range doing all sorts of drills close in and far out.
Ideally I would mount it with a QD mount as I use this weapon for Home Defense as well.

I'm sure it would be great on my rem. 700, however I want it to serve multiple purposes

Is it just too much scope for the ar?

otherwise I will have to decide between other options below which i think would be limited to just the AR. and probably not my rem 700

VX-R patrol illuminated reticle
or
VX-6 illuminated reticle

(with these i am just worried about being able to stick that pig in the ear at 250....i know they would be great for everything else.)

ps. the ar has a fixed front sight post

what do yall think I should do?

the secondary options are the
 vx-r patrol 1.25-4x
and
vx-6 1-6x

sorry for forgetting that, new here couldnt figure out how to edit.

also have just been runnning MBUIS sights on the AR and an old pentax 3x9x40 on the rem.

AR is the Smith Wesson M&P15 MOE, 16'' barrel, 1:9 twist

trying to make this purchase soon so any input would be better than none!

throw the leupold mark 4 mr/t 1.5-5 into the mix as well, i can get a pretty good price on it with my promotive military discount.

I would go with the 2-12X42 and install a set of offset open sites on the AR for charging pig.

Of those I would be looking closely at the VX-6 1-6 or the 2-12. Truthfully,I would mount the 2-12 on the '06 and leave it there for serious use. I'm thinking a red dot of some variety might be more useful for the up close and personal stuff on the AR.

Out of what you listed I would opt for the 2-12.

Actually I went another route and purchased a vx-r 2-7 x 33 and a GG&G FLT mount today, will report back with lots of pictures hopefully (would be much easier with tapatalk) has anyone had the custom shop make their CDS for this scope? I'll be needing some advice on that in a few weeks after i get a chance to play with it

I have ran all of the scopes mentioned here and currently have a VX6 1-6 and 2-12

I think you make a WISE choice on the 2-7 VX-R
My brother runs one on his 6.8, it's a fantastic scope

CCoker,
A big thanks to you, most of my decision was based off of various posts you have done throughout the recent past.

I went with the german 4 illum vx-r 2-7 over the 1.25-4 and vx 1-6 for a few reasons

a big one was price,
vx-6 $900
1.25 $465
2-7 $400

i like that the turrets are capped

I didn't like the spacing of the SPR reticle as far as 2.5 mils went (decided on the german 4)

the scope will be mounted with a Quick detach therefore, any time i need to i can get a true TRUE TRUE 1x with my magpul BUIS

I like to think i have a 1-7x Big Grin
