I have an older Vari X II scope, probably from the 70's - 3x9x40.  Has been good but I am looking for a newer brighter scope.  The VX II, is still a current model, and has it been improved from the older model?   I am thinking of getting a brighter scope so the Zeiss would be better but how much better?

Yes, VXII has improved. The biggest improvement is it has the same glass the Vari-XIII once had. With that said, the Zeiss is a better scope than both the Vari-XII and VXII.

With the upcoming improved changes to the VX3, my gut feeling is the VXII will eventually have the same glass the VXIII once had.

If you don't want to spring for the zeiss, get a bushnell 4200 3-9x40....which will be better than a VX-II.

It's been a while since I've looked through my VX II, but I know my Conquest is significantly better. I think you would be happy.

Conquest, for sure.

Leupold makes a decent scope, but the price isn't in line with the product, in my opinion.  A Bushnell 4200 will be an improvement, a Conquest, better still.

Get the Conquest.

There have been many improvements in all scope lines since the 70s, I believe any of the new scopes in the $400-500 price range will show significant clarity and brightness over your current leupold.  I also think many of the scopes in the $200-300 price range will be an improvement.

I agree with all of the above Posted a Nikon Monarch, Bushnell 4200, and Zeiss Conquest will ALL be an improvement over your Scope and even the current VX-II line.

I agree I have a Conquest 3.5-10 44mm on my Weatherby Vangaurd Sub MOA and it's served me well for the past 3 years. Have buddies that have scope envy at elk camp every year.  The low light gathering is helped by the little bit bigger 44mm opening Vs 40mm and it's not as bulky as the 50's that are out there.

Cheers...

Now I just need to figure out what to put on my new Remington R-15 that will be here next week!
