I am about to buy what will probably be my last rifle scope.  I am going to replace a 30 year old 2 x 7 Leupold Vari-X II which I will probably transfer to a muzzleloader.   Which one of these for deer hunting?   Swarovski Z6 (1.7 - 10 x 42) or Zeiss Victory Diavari (2.5 - 10 x 42) or Leupold Vx - 7 (2.5 - 10 x 45). I appreciate the input as there is no place close to me where I can view all three at the same time.

i dont have any first hand experience with any of those three either, but i know for a fact that bewteen the z6 and the victory they are both excellent and you cant go wrong with either of those, im not a huge leupold fan so i dont really consider the vx7 in the same category as the other two.

Sight unseen? I lean towards Zeiss.  I find their stuff more user friendly.  The 6x zoom does not thrill me either... I go from brush to corn fields. and find unless it is sight in time, I am at the lower powers.  I do not want a lot of turning to get back to low power, nor do I want to wind up with an extra wide angle and hunt for the vital zone.

The 1.7x (or 2x) of the Swaro z6's are excellent for brush situations, I used one for two seasons now. Just a quick turn of the silky smooth adjustment and I'm ready for the "on-point" long shots we have here.

Their both equally user friendly and equally expensive. The optics are almost identical but the Zeiss might have a slight edge in the lowest light conditions and rectile choices.

The sample list on SWFA has some pretty deals on some z6 models and at least one Diavari right now.

You can't go wrong with either one. Thunbs Up

Between the 2, I lean Swaro, but both are great scopes.

The Sample List has the Z6 you want for a great price.

the diavari is ffp and the other two are sfp. this may interest you or not. the leo has the best turrets, and clicks if thats important, and the lower end of the z6 is the most user friendly of any scope made.  the leo has ao and because of this additional glass element in the optical path appears somewhat dimmer. neither the zeiss or the z6 has ao, make sure you do or dont want it. the z6 doesn't balance the contrast between direct sunlight (glare)as well as the zeiss which also has the best reticles if you consider the rapid Z group.

The Diavari would be a very hard act to follow.  I feel they are the finest hunting scopes on the planet, bar none.
