I am looking for a new spotting scope almost 100%(im sure there will be SOME occasion I use it for something else but ..) for range use spotting holes when shooting at longer distances and sighting in guns at 100-200 yards or so. I need to be able to see .223/5.56/5.45 rounds .22 WMR(at 100 yds), and or .30 caliber(M1 garand 30-06) at 100-200 yards . Pretty much just a range use spotting scope. I dont own a spotting scope presently and the ONLY scope I have that can see holes at 100 yds is a Intensity optics 4.5-20X scope..so I have a need to find something decent and ive actually UPPED my spending $$ for this to $300 give or take.
Im not looking to see stuff at 500+ yards, just paper punching out to probably 200 max and mostly just for spotting shots and sighting in guns. This taking 3-5 shots then walking 100 yards to see whats happening on paper is getting old lol... So far ive ben looking at the Redfield Rampage, Leupold Ventana, the Cleleston 90, and the Vortex Nomad(i think ...which ever was the less expensive one) I would like something decent that will meet my criteria or at least some more info or what you think of these especially the leupold. Ive asked this on several sites and seemingly with the leupold I either get no responses or limited(though I did get one very detailed and good report off 1 site of a guy that actually tested his for me at the ranges indicated and said it would do what I wanted.. I just wonder if there is anything else out there that will also do what im looking at for a decent price. So ive come to the experts! |

I didnt figure there would be much info on this scope is it really THAT new or what?? this is honestly one of the few scopes I can find almost NOTHING about...a few hunting related reviews that dont help he out at all as all they talk about is being able to tell the difference between doe and buck at X distance..so totally not relevant to what I am looking for lol...

Oh and doing my own poking around I found the Celestron Regal 65 and the Theron Saker 60 also...ive taken a real liking to the Theron Saker especially at the price point VS the reviews...one review said .223 was viewable(in the black) at a measured 265 or 270 yards and BB's out to 200 as I recall...plus its in the $225-250 range to boot leaving me enough room for a $75-100 tripod to go with it....

Sorry. I just saw this post and I don't hang around in the spotting scope forum much.
Welcome to Optics Talk and sorry we weren't able to help you, friend. Best wishes.

I usually answer posts on spottings scopes, but I missed this one too.
However,
I am curious to hear how the scope does.

Not a problem...I just figured someone would at least have a opinion on
this as leupold is a "big name" brand..but on further review there are
almost not reviews on this Spotting Scope(the Ventana) anywhere..I think
i found a total in 1 week of searching of maybe 7 reviews...guess its
either just not that popular or just that new...dont know which. But I will let you guys know when I get it..
I really wanted the Regal 65 or the Theron Saker BUT I missed the big deal on the Regal 65 at $229 by 1 day and the Theron Saker is again, not in stock..and im just not willing to wait so the Leupold it was :) . Sorry if i came out a bit snooty on second look I think I may have and that was not the intent...i think I was more frustrated at missing to good scopes 1 on sale and the other not in stock combined with no one anywhere essentially knowing anything about the Ventana..and with my luck(almost always BAD) I hate trying to make "blind"/uninformed purchases. |
