I've been thinking about a new Leup VX-3 1.5-5x with the illuminated Circle Dot reticle (comes in a 30mm tube) for almost a year now for my next project gun.

I finally get around to ordering that scope, and they tell me they are not available right now, probably another 4-6 weeks.

?? Not available? So I called Leup to see what's up with this?

I was told they are improving the illumination systems in their illuminated scopes, and that production has started on some of the higher powers but won't get to the 1.5-5x's for another few weeks.

Brighter intensity
Hard-stop 'off' setting so you can't rotate past zero
8 level settings instead of more (10? 11? not sure how many there were before)
And it now will have an 'auto-off' feature that if the scope is not moved for a set amount of time (don't recall the actual time amount, maybe 10min?), it will automatically shut off the power to the illumination system. And then when movement is sensed, it will instantly come back on to the previous dial intensity setting. That way you can't run the battery down by accidentally leaving it on.

So I'll have to wait until around August to try out my new scope, hopefully it'll be worth the wait.

Welcome to OT, black frog!

Based on your description, it sounds like Leupold is updating their illumination system from analog to digital controls.

The thing that botheres me the most about the one I have is that it does not stop at Zero it just turns and turns and turns.  With the cost of the Mark 4 you shouldnt have the illumination accidentally go dead when you need it so this will be a good improvement.

new illumination includes daylight illumination and motion detection which activates it, more important than decactivation when not using.
