I just bought a used Leupold scope at gun show today to put on my Remington Model 700 7MM Magnum. I need any info that one might care to share with me. It is a Leupold VARI-X III 3.5 X 10-50 mm E.F.R. I don't know a thing about the yardage finder on the end of the scope? Can someone fill me in on how to use it? It shows 15 all the way to 400? It has a real heavy outside crosshair with small dotted lines for the posts. The crosshair is a PREMIRE RETICLE. I have other Leupold scopes but not with the yardage finder on the end. It isn't a Leupold "clone"

I bought it used and it looks almost new. Just wandering what it might be worth and to see if I got a good deal?

Thank you very much.

not sure how to vote on this one. the adjustable objective on the end isn't a range finder-the focus isn;t calibrated to the range numbers, the range is on the power selector on a III, the reticle sounds like it might be an after market premier, the efr makes this a very good air gun and 22 lr for which it will get higher bucks. somewhere around $300.

Thanks Dale, It isn't a "clone" scope it's a good quality scope. Maybe I didn't make my words in the above sound right. I have re-written it a little different. Now what do you think? Thanks and your comments are really appreciated.

no indeed not a clone with a premier ranging reticle. select a target about 18" in height and 100 yd away and with the scope on the highest power determine the "subtension" between any 2 of the dots. this is the ranging principle behind the reticle. next time you see a deer for example which is about 18" from bottome to back see how much it fills between 2 of the dots. this will be the range, if it fills 1/2 as much its, twice as far.
