Is a VX-III any tougher than a VX-I ?    By tougher I mean, can it handle recoil and mussle blast better than a VX-I...    I know the VX-IIIs have better clarity and more bells and whistles, but can they take a beating any better than the cheaper one?

I'm just a newbie here, but I'm pretty sure that Leupold has a full warranty on all of their scopes and if it breaks they'll fix it. I'm sure someone else who has much more knowledge of scopes than myself will probably chim in and clear this up.

Yeah, I know they'll fix it....I'm trying to settle an argument between me and a buddy.  He seems to think a VX-III is made by the 'almighty' and a bunch of scrubs slap the VX-Is together.

To the best of my knowledge the big difference is the glass quality. I'm unsure if there is any other real difference.

In the tool and die industry we call them schlubsWink I believe they are all made in the same plant in Beaverton, Oregon.
The VX-I's have different lens coatings and have friction adjustments. I have had many different Leupolds across several lines and the reliability on all of them has been perfect. The click or friction adjustments are of no consequence regarding reliability.

VX-III has one piece body, so it should be a little tougher, i had no problems with VX-I on my brush gun and it wasn't handled gently.

Leupold claims that all their scopes, that is the VX1, VX2 and VX3/VX-L are built to the same durability standards. The Mrk.4 is built to a much higher standard of recoil and shock resistance.
