Ok, thanks to all those that contributed to my previous post regarding what rifle and scope to buy. I've pretty much decided to go with a Rem 700 SPS .223 with a Bushnell Elite 4200 scope. Now I need your advice and considerable wisdom one more time.

I was looking at the Leupold QR rings and bases, and I'd love a set of rings that I can remove so easily. Seems like a lot of people on the forum have used these, so are they really as good as Leupold says they are? And is the one-piece base that much better than the two-piece that it's worth not being able to get to the breach as easily?

I have the QR's on two 700's in the 2pc. version. It is easier to access the breach area with any 2pc. mount and I prefer the look over the 1pc set-up's. The answer to your second question is yes, they are as good as Leupold claims them to be. They are very repeatable and very strong. I'm not sure what you are eluding to when you say that a 1pc is better than a 2pc. Some folks used to believe that a 1pc. added rigidity to a rifles receiver. Think about the fact that a 2pc. set-up attach's to the receiver with four screws and a 1pc. uses 3 screws. I have never seen any proof that a 1pc. adds strength to a modern bolt rifle like the one you are considering. IMO don't even give it a second thought. Another benefit of the detachable mount is being able to remove your scope(s) during airline travel. Unpressurized storage compartments are tough on scope seals. Lastly, you will disappoint baggage handlers at the airport. One less thing to be concerned about should you travel with your firearm(s).

I simply assumed the 1 pc to be more sturdy, glad to hear otherwise!
