I bought the Leupold QR Gunmaker's bases to put on an old Savage model 99. My goal was to be able to remove the scope and use the iron sights (just like most people who post about QR bases). My problem was that whoever drilled and tapped my gun did not follow any sort of guidelines as to the distance between the holes. Therefore no commercially produced base will fit the holes that are in my gun. In light of the fact that I did not want to put more holes in the gun, I bought these gunmaker bases. Basically they employ the Leupold QR system, but the base is basically just a rectangular block of metal that is designed to be fitted for a particular gun. The first gunsmith I took the gun to called me back to say "I can't put these on, the bases don't have holes in them!". Despite my attempts to explain, he never quite caught on. Anyway, is it going to be difficult to find someone who will fit these bases to my gun? I don't have much knowledge of gunsmithing, but it doesn't seem that it would be too difficult or time consuming to do. Has anyone used the gunmaker bases before. If so, about how much am I looking at paying to have these things fitted?
