Got this email alert today and was wondering if this will affect SWFA:

Leupold's "Unilateral Pricing Policy" is going into effect on March 1, 2009 and will change the way you buy optics from the legendary brand. In a nutshell, Leupold is putting dealers that sell below MSRP on a blacklist. Naturally, since XXXXXXX sells Leupold at dealer cost, we are in danger of losing our ability to offer the product line. This, of course, is a great disservice to loyal Leupold clients. Leupold optics will naturally lose ground to other makers: Burris, Nikon, Zeiss, etc-- that will continue to offer comparable products at much lower and competitive prices-- the way capitalism intended. Frankly, this is a huge step backwards for the company. The internet is not going away and companies that fail to embrace the evolution of business will perish.

I thought this was already the case with Leupold.....  Some vendors to get around it offer "free" products when you buy a Leupold scope.....

The last two I bought were discontinued models...  I picked up a 3x9 EFR before they upgraded to the new VX II and just picked up a 4.5x14x40 AO VXIII again discounted now that the new VX3 is out.....  both scopes sit on rimfire......

Otherwise I have been buying Zeiss......  At times there are some good deals on these scopes....

Leupold's have been "price protected" for years.  They may now be a little firmer with repremand I suppose.  I agree it is not in their best interest from a reputation standpoint especially with the economy being what it is.  I'd guess shooters and hunters are affected as much as anyone.  I'm sure Dr.s and Lawyers will still be able to buy new golf clubs.Wink

I've heard they have been doing this for sometime now.  The do things others don't do which is what makes them attractive but I don't understand why companies do these sort of things.

This was an email from an online vendor.  I have never purchased anything from them since you have to pay a monthly membership fee to get the good pricing.  I have never owned a Leupold, always thought they were too expensive for what you get, guess I will never own one now.
