I have read and read and I believe this is what the rankings are for a roof prism bino in 8x or 10x roof under $600.
#1 PENTAX DCF SP
#2 LEUPOLD PINNACLE
#3 BUSHNELL DISCOVERER
#4 NIKON ATB/LEUPOLD CASCADE/ BUSHNELL LEGEND   (ABOUT THE SAME OPTICALL)

I am wanting to know a little about the LEUPOLD OLYMPICS   and even DCF WPII. Where do they fit in this ranking? I believe if I were to get a porro prism then I would get the LEGEND 8X42 OR PENTAX WP 8X40.   To me the LEGEND roofs are fine but heavy and bulky, The NIKON ATB had the best weight and feel but the image was a little soft and colors and sharpness was a little soft too. I actually thought the CASCADES had truer colors and focused for my eyes better but the focus wheel required a little more turning to focus and the focus knob was scratchy feeling when I turned it. Is the OLYMPIC better than the MONARCH and how far from the PINNACLE IS IT? The PINNACLE WAS SHARP AND EXCELLENT but view and field of view seemed small. I only had access to the 10x pair though.OLYMPICS ANYONE?

I think Olympic are better than the Monarch, but Pinnacles are better yet.  How much is personal, of course, but to me, Pinnacle binos are worth the difference.

In the under $600 price range, Minox makes a couple of binos that are worth a look, I think.  Minox BD 8.5x42 BR is in your price range and may be better than the Pentax DCF SP (I have not looked at them side by side, but this is my recollection).  Minox BL 8x42 BR are less expensive, but can give the Pinnacles pretty stiff competition.  I have not compared BL BR to the Pinnacles, but I have compared them to the Monarchs and to some more expensive binocs and I think the BL BR line is a great bargain.  They were obviously and significantly superior to the Monarch.

How would the Bushnell Discover stack up against the Leupold Pinnacle or Olympic? They are a little heavier than I would like, but if they are brighter and better resoloution and cheaper right now as they are discontinued then I may go that route.

i tried the monarch atb and did`nt like them at all, too heavy and did`nt turn well on the wheel. I had gotten my son a pair of the cascades in 10x42 and I must say they worked very very well. I have leupold everything so I am "tarnished" but I looked around awhile and picked them. for me the olympics in 10x50 are very nice glass indeed. camo or not they come right up to your eyes, they are lighter, and less money. the 12x50 olympics are WONDERFULL !!!!! I can`t believe how well they fit my hands, get right on when looking at something moving quickley, and easy of use just rocks !!!!! they are under/at $400 bucks- great deal. I want t osee the new ones they have came out with that are in a different color they are called "natural" have`nt seen them yet !

my nickel !
