Hi; and welcome. As for the scopes you noted above.....I don't think anyone should buy any of the two series you mentioned above. If you want to buy a good low cost scope look at the Nikon Buckmaster series instead.

Marty:  Welcome to the forums.

I have to agree with fourinone.  Both the Leupold Rifleman and the Nikon Prostaff are not very good in the optics department.  Both are entry level scopes from both companies.

The Nikon Buckmaster is a MUCH better scope over both the Leupold Rifleman and the Prostaff.  The Buckmaster is a bit more money, however it is well worth the bit of extra cash.

Also if you are on this web page and you look to the left hand side you will notice at the bottom the RifeScopes.com store.  Click on that and then look for "sample list".  The store here sells brand new stuff (more money) but you can also pick up traded in items as well as floor demo's.  I believe last time I looked, a Nikon Buckmaster can be picked up off the sample list for about a $150.00

Good luck

T

fourinone and Acenturian gave you excellent advise.

Even the hard core Leupold and Nikon folks hate these two scopes you mentioned.

Me included.

Go with the Buckmaster and you'll be fine.

You mentioned a 50mm obective, but this one's a 40mm.

They do offer a 50, but a 40mm objective will allow you to mount the scope lower and get a better cheekweld, IMHO. YMMV of course.

I'll just beat our resident Burris guy, koshkin, to the punch and say that the Burris FFII will be a viable option as well.

Welcome to The OT, Marty!!!

Glad your here.
